Alpine Dairy Pezzeit di Sotto

Malga Pezzeit di Sotto sits at 1462m in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, on the eastern edge of the Julian Alps. Reach it from the village of Malborghetto in the Resia Valley via a 2-hour hike through spruce forest and alpine pasture. The trail climbs steadily but is well-marked and suitable for walkers of moderate fitness. The malga lies on the approach to Monte Canin and serves as a base for ridge traverses across the Julian crest.

The hut operates as a working dairy farm with basic mountain hospitality. It sleeps around 20 people in simple shared rooms. Meals centre on local dairy products and mountain fare—expect polenta, cheese, and cured meats rather than restaurant cooking. Water comes from the spring. There is no electricity; lighting is basic. The hut opens June to September, depending on snow melt and staffing. It functions primarily as a working facility, not a tourist destination.

Book directly by phone or visit in person—this is not a staffed rifugio with online systems. Arrive early in the day if you have no reservation. July and August see the most traffic. The hut accepts cash only. Come prepared for genuine alpine dairy accommodation: clean, functional, and honest.
