About
Planinski Dom Kokoš sits at 1,520m on the slopes of Košuta in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The standard approach is from Logarska Dolina valley. From the village of Solčava, drive to the Logarska Dolina road (closed in winter) and park near Rečica. Hike via Rečica waterfall and the meadows to reach the hut in 2.5 to 3 hours. The trail is well-marked and moderately steep. In winter, approach from Ljubno or use the longer route via Kamniška Bistrica. Most hikers use this hut as a base for climbing Košuta (2,270m, 2–3 hours from the hut) or crossing toward Kamniške Alpe.
The hut has 50 beds split between shared rooms and a few smaller private quarters. Meals are basic but solid: hearty Slovenian fare including Kranjska klobasa, bean soup, and fresh bread. Water comes from the mountain spring. The facilities include a small shop, toilets, and a winter room with a wood stove. The hut opens year-round but is best visited May through October. Winter access requires good navigation skills and alpine experience.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email, especially for weekends and July. Groups of 10 or more should arrange in advance. The hut fills fast on summer weekends and during school holidays. Midweek visits offer far better availability. Register with PZS (Planinska zveza Slovenije) for discounted bed rates if you hold a membership card. Bring cash—card payments are not always reliable at this altitude.
