Ricovero Casera Galvana

Ricovero Casera Galvana sits at 1,613m in the Carnic Alps, accessible from the Sella Nevea pass area. The hut serves as a basecamp for ridge walking and scrambling across the high limestone plateau. Most hikers approach from Sella Nevea (about 2 hours on foot) or from the Passo della Mauria side. The location puts you within striking distance of several 2,000m+ summits and offers good access to the Crete di Aip traverse.
The refuge is small and basic—typical of a mountain workers' shelter converted to public use. It has around 20 beds in simple dormitory arrangements and provides meals on request; bring a sleeping bag liner and expect fundamental comfort. Water comes from a local spring. The hut opens year-round but is reliably staffed May through September; outside this window, call ahead. Winter access depends on snow conditions and your own winter mountaineering skills.

October through April is quiet; reserve by phone a few days before. The hut has no email booking system; a call is your best option. Expect to pay around €25–35 per night for bed and breakfast.
