Ricovero Igor Crasso

Ricovero Igor Crasso sits at 1665m in the Julian Alps of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Reach it from the Sella Nevea trailhead in about 2 hours on foot. The approach follows marked paths through mixed forest and alpine meadow, gaining roughly 400m. Most parties approach from the north via the Predil Pass area or from Tarvisio to the south. Winter access is limited—check conditions with CAI Trieste before visiting November through April.

The rifugio is a small, utilitarian mountain shelter run by CAI Trieste (Associazione XXX Ottobre). It has 11 beds in basic dormitory arrangements. The hut provides simple meals on request and hot drinks. There's no shower. This is a working mountain refuge, not a hotel. Water comes from a reliable spring nearby. The location makes it useful for winter mountaineering in the Julian Alps and for summer ridge traverses between Trieste and Tarvisio. Open year-round but reliably staffed June through September. Winter visits require advance contact.

Book through CAI Trieste. Email or phone ahead if you're visiting outside summer months—the hut operates on minimal staffing in shoulder seasons. July and August fill quickly; reserve 4–6 weeks ahead. Winter mountaineering groups should contact the managing club at least 10 days in advance. The hut is small enough that a single large party can dominate availability. Solo hikers and small groups find space more easily outside peak season.
