Bivouac Giulio Tifoni

Bivacco Giulio Tifoni sits at 1,350m in the Ligurian Apennines, accessible from the village of Pontremoli via the Taverone Valley. The approach takes roughly 4 hours on foot through mixed terrain, climbing steadily through beech forest and open ridge country. This is a true bivouac—a basic shelter designed for emergency use or as a waypoint on longer mountain routes, not a staffed mountain hut.

The bivouac sleeps 5 people in basic dormitory bunks. There is no warden, no meals, and no running water. It functions as a self-service emergency shelter with a roof, walls, and basic sleeping platforms. You must bring a sleeping bag, mat, and all food and water. The shelter is open year-round but snow and weather can make winter access difficult or impossible.

This is an unmanned facility managed by CAI Sezione Pontremoli. Check conditions and access directly with the section before heading out, especially in winter. The hut suits experienced hikers and mountaineers who understand what a true bivouac entails—this is not accommodation in the traditional sense.
