About

Rifugio La Terza sits at 2,060m in the Ligurian Alps, on the watershed ridge between the Mediterranean and Po Valley. Reach it from Colle della Lombarda (2,352m) in 2 hours walking north along the ridge, or approach from the south via Monesi di Triora in roughly 3.5 hours. The hut marks the midpoint of longer ridge traverses and serves as a base for exploring the high moorlands of Liguria's interior.

The rifugio runs year-round and accommodates 30 people in dormitory beds. Half-board is available in summer; meals focus on local specialties. Water comes from a natural spring. The hut is basic but functional—no shower—and electricity is limited. This is an active hiker's base, not a resort. Strong winds are common at this elevation, especially in autumn and winter. The ridge location means exposure to weather; spring snow can block access until May.

Contact the hut directly by phone for booking. Summer weekends fill quickly, especially July and August. For quieter conditions, visit June or September. Winter access depends on snow conditions—call ahead to confirm. The hut sits on the CAI Alta Via route 1, a popular multi-day traverse; book 4-6 weeks ahead if you're timing a link in that route.

Half-board available with dormitory beds for 30 people; expect basic bunks and shared ablutions typical of Italian Alpine huts at this elevation.
No—access is demanding and the 2,060m elevation makes it best for fit, experienced hikers; families with young children should choose lower, easier rifugi.
