About

Rifugio Quarzina sits at 1,347m in the Ligurian Alps, on the watershed ridge between the Aveto and Graveglia valleys. Reach it from Borzonasca in 2.5 hours via the Passo della Colletta trail, or from Rezzoaglio in 3 hours via the eastern approach. Both routes are well-marked and moderate. The hut lies on the trans-regional CAI pathway linking the Ligurian coast to the northern plains, making it a natural stopover for multi-day ridge walks.

The rifugio is modest: 40 beds in basic dormitory rooms, with a kitchen and dining area. Hot meals and packed lunches are available. Water comes from the spring outside. The hut operates year-round but call ahead in winter when staffing can be irregular. Winter snow above 1,200m is common from December through March.

Book direct by telephone. The hut is managed independently, not by a major Alpine club. Summer weekends fill up, particularly July and August when demand for Liguria's ridge routes peaks. Aim to call 2–3 days ahead for July. The hut is least crowded mid-week in June, September, and October—ideal times for a quieter stay and clearer views toward the Apennines.
