Alp di Fora

Alp di Fora sits at 1,844m on the slopes above the Val Brembana in Lombardy. This is a working dairy farm that takes hikers. Most people approach from Piazza Brembana to the south: the walk takes 3–4 hours and climbs steadily through pasture and light forest. You can also reach it from the Aveto valley to the east, though that's rougher terrain.

The hut sleeps 16 in simple shared rooms. Meals centre on local cheese and dairy products—this is alpine farmland. The kitchen is basic but functional. Water comes from the spring. The hut stays open year-round because the farmers live here, but expect basic conditions outside summer. Don't count on heating in winter months. This is not a staffed rifugio: you're sleeping in a working farm building with hikers who want to be here, not tourists.

Book by phone before you go. The number is on the hut information sheets. July and August fill quickly because the location is quiet and the dairy food is genuine. Aim to call at least two weeks ahead in peak season. In shoulder months (June and September) you usually have more flexibility. Winter visits need arrangement well in advance. Bring cash for payment.
