Bivacco Zeb sits at 2,011m on the slopes above Lake Como in Lombardy, in the heart of the Lario Alps. Reach it from Dongo by heading to Pian di Gembro, then climbing steeply through forest to the hut. The approach takes 3–4 hours on well-marked CAI trails and gains roughly 800m. This is a working hut from late spring through early autumn, though winter access is possible for experienced mountaineers comfortable with snow.
The bivouac sleeps 8 in basic dormitory beds. There is no staffing, no meals, and no running water—you carry everything in. A wood stove provides heating. The hut serves as a base for scrambling and rock climbing on the surrounding ridges, and as a waypoint on longer traverses across the Lario Alps toward Valchiavenna. In winter it becomes an emergency refuge only; the hut wardens do not maintain it regularly.
