Cabin Albagno

Capanna Albagno sits at 1870m on the slopes above the Albagno Valley in Lombardy. Most hikers approach from the village of Dosso del Liro, a 2.5-hour ascent through mixed forest and open pasture. The hut is also reachable from Pian delle Betulle to the north, though that route adds another hour and more elevation gain. The location puts you on the western flank of the Val Albagno massif, with direct access to ridge walks and peak scrambles across the local terrain.

The hut sleeps 28 across dormitory beds and three private rooms. There's no kitchen or meals service—bring your own food and water bottles. Drinking water is available on-site. The hut operates year-round but sees heaviest use June through September when the high pastures green and the ridge crossings are snow-free. Winter access depends on snow conditions and may require crampons or microspikes on the approach.

Book directly by email or phone. July and August weekends fill quickly; aim to confirm your reservation at least 4 weeks ahead during peak season. Weekday visits in shoulder months (May, September, October) rarely require advance booking. The hut is small enough that overbooking isn't an issue, but calling ahead ensures someone will be present to open up.
