Cabin Cornavosa

Capanna Cornavosa stands at 1,991m on the slopes of Monte Cornavosa in the Bergamo Alps of Lombardy. The hut sits above the Val Seriana, accessed from the village of Castione della Presolana. Most parties approach via the marked trail from Rifugio Nembini (1,524m), a 2.5-hour climb through mixed forest and open pasture. The final approach crosses steep terrain—the hut rewards hikers with views across the valley and access to higher peaks in the range.

The hut has 24 beds across shared rooms. Half-board meals are available: the kitchen serves hearty mountain cooking using regional ingredients. No electricity or running water—this is a working mountain hut, not a hotel. The season runs June through September, depending on snow and weather. The SAC (Sezione Bergamasca del CAI) manages the hut and keeps it as a basecamp for walkers tackling the surrounding ridges and peaks.

Phone ahead before visiting, especially in July and August. Call directly to check availability and meals. The hut fills on weekends during peak season. July and August demand booking 4 weeks in advance. Aim for mid-week stays if possible. Cash payment preferred, though arrangements can sometimes be made for transfers. Arrive early enough to settle in before darkness—the final approach scramble is awkward in poor light.
