Cabin Monte Bar

Capanna Monte Bar sits at 1602m on Monte Bar in Lombardy, serving hikers working through the Val Camonica and surrounding ridges. The hut sits roughly 3 hours on foot from Ponte di Legno, following marked trails through beech forest that open onto alpine meadow. You can also approach from Collio to the east in similar time. The location works well as a mid-trip stop or base for day walks on the Orobie peaks.

The hut sleeps 44 across mixed dorms and doubles. Meals are served daily—expect hearty mountain food, pasta and stews, nothing fancy. Water runs from the tap. WiFi is available, which is useful for weather checks before committing to exposed terrain higher up. The hut opens year-round, though conditions in winter demand experience and proper kit. Most traffic comes June through September.

Shoulder season (May–June, September–October) is quieter and gives you better odds of finding space on short notice. The hut keeps reasonable hours—arrive by early evening to secure your place at dinner.
