Refuge Croce di Campo

Rifugio Croce di Campo sits at 1,740m in the Bergamasque Alps above the Val Seriana in Lombardy. The hut is accessed from Peia or from the Sentiero Azzurro trail system. Most parties hike 2–2.5 hours from the valley floor, gaining roughly 600m through mixed forest and meadow. The hut is well-positioned for day trips to surrounding peaks and as a base for traversing the ridge routes that characterize this region.

The refuge holds 35 beds across simple rooms. Half-board or full-board meals are available; the kitchen serves straightforward mountain food and local cheeses. Water comes from a spring. The hut has no electricity but maintains kerosene lighting and wood heating. Open from spring through October, it closes in winter. Phone ahead to confirm current conditions, especially during shoulder seasons.

Call directly to reserve. The hut books quickly during July and August—reserve at least 4–6 weeks in advance for those months. June and September see lighter demand but still require 2–3 weeks' notice. Outside summer season, 1–2 weeks ahead is usually sufficient. Bring cash; card payment facilities are limited.
