Refuge Luigi Azzoni

Rifugio Luigi Azzoni sits at 1,860m in the Orobie Alps of Lombardy, serving as a base for ridge walks and day hikes across the limestone plateaus. Reach it from Piazza Brembana via the Val Brembana; the approach hike takes roughly 3 hours from the village. The rifugio is built into terrain that offers immediate access to high-altitude trails without a long valley slog—useful if you're short on days.

The hut sleeps 20 across basic rooms with blankets provided. Meals are simple: fixed menus at dinner, packed lunches on request, coffee and drinks at breakfast. There's no shower, so expect cold-water washrooms. The hut opens year-round but is most reliable June through September; winter visits require advance notice and cooperation from the guardian. Mobile signal is weak.

Book direct by phone or email. July and August demand 4–6 weeks' notice. Shoulder months (June, September) are more flexible but still book 2–3 weeks ahead. The hut is small and family-run; email gets slower responses in peak season, so phone is often faster. Confirm your arrival time the day before—the guardian needs to know you're coming.
