About
Bivacco Corradini sits at 2,850m on the border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, serving climbers and winter mountaineers on the approach to peaks in the Monte Rosa massif. Access is technical: most parties hike from Macugnaga in 5–6 hours via the Punta Indren cable car (2,400m) and then traverse the Sesia Glacier to reach the bivouac. Winter ascents from the Rifugio Sesia or Rifugio Patrì also converge here. The final approach crosses exposed terrain and crevassed ice; previous winter climbing experience is essential.
This is a true bivouac, not a staffed rifugio. It provides basic shelter with 6 beds inside a small mountain hut. There is no guardian, no meals, and no reliable water source—bring everything you need, including food, fuel, and water. The hut has a wood stove and offers protection from weather but minimal comfort. Winter is the main season; summer visits are rare and require glacier competence.
Book through the local CAI section or the hut owner directly. Contact details and availability can be found via rifugi.net or CAI Piedmont. Arrive fully self-sufficient: carry all food, fuel, and a stove. Plan for 3–4 people to make the winter climb worthwhile, as parties are small and infrequent. July and August may see occasional summer approaches, but the hut is primarily accessed November through April.
