Chalet de Savolayre C.A.S

Chalet de Savolayre sits at 2,370m in the Gran Paradiso massif, on the border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. Reach it from the Val di Rhêmes in roughly 4 hours, starting from Pont near the valley road. The approach crosses alpine meadows and rocky terrain with solid trails throughout. Most parties arrive via the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II route, which adds another hour but connects major hut networks.

The hut sleeps 31 across mixed dormitories and smaller rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; the kitchen serves hearty mountain fare. Hot water, heating, and pit toilets are available—expect basic Alpine refuge conditions rather than hotel comforts. The season runs June through September, with July and August peak months. The location works well as a base for Gran Paradiso climbs and multi-day traverses linking huts in the region.

Book through the managing club, which handles reservations. Contact the hut directly in shoulder season (June and September) as availability is usually reliable. For July weekends and all of August, book 8–10 weeks ahead. The hut closes in bad weather and fills quickly during good spells, so confirm before your approach.
