About

Domhütte SAC sits at 2,940m on the border between Piedmont and Switzerland. Access is from the Val d'Aosta side via the Gressoney valley. The standard approach is from Gressoney-Saint-Jean: 5–6 hours of hiking gains 1,200m elevation through steep terrain to the hut. Early start is essential. A cable car shortens the approach but runs seasonally. Winter access requires ski mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness.

The hut sleeps 75 climbers in shared dorms. Meals are served daily: breakfast, packed lunches, and dinner with wine included. Hot water and drinking water are reliable. The SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) manages the building. Toilet facilities are basic alpine standard. The hut opens from June through September for summer mountaineering. Winter touring is possible but check conditions with the guardian before attempting the approach.

Book by email or phone at least 3 weeks ahead during peak season (July–August). Summer weekends fill quickly. Confirm water and food stocks if you're arriving in late season. Cell signal is weak; call from Gressoney before you leave to confirm your arrival time. The hut keeper expects you to be self-sufficient with navigation and route-finding skills.
