This gîte sits at 1,520m in the upper Stura Valley, 15km south of Demonte in Piedmont. Reach it from Demonte by walking 4–5 hours up the valley floor, following the river and forest tracks. The final approach climbs steeply through pasture. Mountain biking in is possible on the lower section. The hut is a base for day walks into the Maritimes and access to higher valleys; the Alta Via 1 passes nearby.
Le Riou Vert is a simple refuge with 20 beds in mixed dorms and a few doubles. Half-board only: dinner and breakfast are included with your bed, lunch packs available on request.
