About

Rifugio Lago d'Allos sits at 2,226m in the Maritime Alps, on the shore of Lac d'Allos in Piedmont. Reach it from the Colle della Lombarda (2,351m) in 2.5 hours, or from the Pian delle Gorre trailhead in 4 hours. The hut marks a natural stopping point for traverses between the Ubaye Valley and the upper Gesso basin. Most hikers arrive midday and stay one night before continuing east or west along the alpine ridges.

The rifugio accommodates 42 guests in simple dorm rooms. Hot showers are available. The kitchen serves three meals daily: breakfast, packed lunches, and a solid evening meal. The hut operates from mid-June through September, weather permitting. It closes during heavy snow or wind. Water comes from the lake; the hut treats it. No mobile signal reaches the building, so plan accordingly.

Book directly by email or phone as soon as your dates are set. July and August fill quickly, especially weekends. Confirm your arrival time when booking—the guardian needs warning for group arrivals. The hut may restrict bookings during unstable weather or staff shortages. Call ahead if you're arriving after 5pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2–3 weeks ahead during July and August, especially for weekends; shoulder season (June, September) is less crowded but still call ahead. Contact the hut directly by phone to confirm availability and make a reservation.
Open mid-June through September; exact dates depend on snow melt and weather. Call ahead to confirm current status, particularly in early June or late September.
From Colle della Lombarda (2,351m): 2.5 hours; from Pian delle Gorre trailhead: 4 hours. Both are established routes; Colle della Lombarda is faster if you have transport to the pass.
42 beds in dorm rooms, hot showers, and meals (breakfast and dinner available). Bring a towel or rent one; some huts charge a small fee for showers.
Yes for fit families and hikers with Alpine experience; the 2.5-hour approach from Colle della Lombarda is moderate, but altitude (2,226m) and exposed ridges require acclimatization and sure footing. Not ideal for young children or inexperienced hikers.
