About

Rifugio Cibrario sits at 2,616m in the Gran Paradiso massif, the easiest hut approach in the range. Most parties hike from Pont in 5–6 hours, gaining 1,400m via the Valnontey valley and meadow paths. A cable car runs from Pont to Lillaz at 1,800m, cutting the ascent to 3 hours if you prefer to save legs for the mountains ahead. The hut perches on the watershed between the Gran Paradiso and Gressoney valleys, making it a natural hub for ridge traverses and glacier access.

The hut holds 42 beds across mixed dormitories. Half-board is standard—decent mountain food, reliable coffee, and enough hot water for a wash. There's a small common room with maps and a logbook. Toilets are outside. The hut opens late May through September, closing in winter. Note that water comes from snowmelt; it runs cold and unreliable in dry spells.

Book direct by phone or email with the managing section, CAI Leinì. July and August weekends fill 4–6 weeks ahead. June and September are quieter and more reliable. Confirm your arrival time when booking—the hut is staffed but doesn't always expect walkers on short notice. Ring ahead if weather looks doubtful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends and July–August; weekdays outside peak season often have availability. Contact the hut directly by phone or check rifugio.net and cai.it for availability and reservations.
Open June to September, fully staffed during this period. Outside these months the hut is closed; contact ahead if planning shoulder-season visits.
Hike from Pont in 5–6 hours (1,400m gain) via Valnontey valley, or use the cable car from Pont to Lillaz (1,800m) and hike 3 hours from there. The cable car cuts steep elevation gain if you want to conserve energy.
42 beds with basic Alpine hut accommodation, hot meals at dinner, and packed lunches available. Expect dorm sleeping and simple bathroom facilities typical of Piedmont mountain huts.
Yes for fit hikers and families with mountain experience; the cable car option makes it accessible without suffering the full ascent. It's a solid entry point to Gran Paradiso but not for absolute beginners—5–6 hours at altitude and 1,400m gain demands reasonable fitness.
