Refuge Scarfiotti

Rifugio Scarfiotti sits at 2,165m in the Piedmont Alps, serving as a base for ridge walks and approaches to higher peaks in the Gran Paradiso massif. The hut is reached in 3–4 hours from the valley by hiking through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. The standard approach starts from Ceresole Reale and gains 1,000m elevation steadily. Winter access is severely limited; confirm conditions before planning visits November through May.

The rifugio has 24 beds split across simple dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard—dinners feature local Piedmont dishes and hearty mountain fare. Breakfast is basic but filling. The hut operates a small bar. Water comes from a spring; toilet facilities are functional but basic. There is no shower. The hut typically opens from June through September, with shoulder-season weekends possible depending on snow melt and staffing. Phone the hut directly to confirm opening dates in spring and autumn.
