Baita Cioc

Baita Cioc sits at 2,095m in the Pale di San Martino massif, deep in the Dolomites. The standard approach is from Passo Rolle (2,007m), a 2-hour traverse northeast across rolling terrain. You can also reach it in 3.5 hours from Rifugio Fedare via Passo Fedare. The hut anchors access to the limestone towers and ridges above—climbers use it as a base for rock routes on the Pale, while hikers branch south toward Passo Cioc and the Catinaccio group.

The hut holds 50 beds in simple, clean rooms. It serves full meals (dinner around 25–30€, breakfast included) and stocks packed lunches. Drinks and basic supplies are available. The kitchen uses local Trentino produce when possible. The hut opens year-round but staffing is reduced in shoulder seasons—check ahead if visiting November through May. Sleeping facilities are modest; expect bunk rooms and shared bathrooms.

Book direct by phone or email as early as possible for July and August. Weekend traffic is heavy May through September, especially from Friday evening. The hut accepts cash and card. Passo Rolle is accessible by car, making this a popular weekend refuge, so weekday visits offer quieter conditions. Parking at the pass fills quickly on sunny days; arrive early or use the shuttle bus in high season.
