Malga Arzon

Malga Arzon sits at 2,150m in the Dolomites, on the Tre Cime plateau between the Auronzo and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Reach it by hiking from Auronzo di Cadore (1,320m, 4-5 hours) via the Passo Ghedina route, or from Misurina (1,466m, 3-4 hours). Both approaches climb steep scree and rock bands with fixed chains in exposed sections. The hut is a solid base for summiting Cima Grande (2,999m) in 2 hours or traversing the entire Tre Cime loop in a day. Winter access is difficult unless snow conditions allow.
The hut has 60 beds in small rooms and dorm spaces. Half-board is standard: dinner and breakfast included, lunch available. The kitchen serves regional Veneto food and has strong vegetarian options. Water comes from a mountain spring. There is no shower but a sink and wash facilities exist. The hut operates from mid-June to mid-September, with weekends possible in early October if snow holds off.
Book 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Weekdays in July are less crowded. Contact the hut directly by phone or email to reserve; payment is typically required at arrival. The hut lies inside the Tre Cime di Lavaredo National Park, so expect crowds on clear weekends. Plan for cold nights even in summer—temperatures drop below freezing regularly above 2,100m.
