About

Oberetteshütte sits at 2,677m on the watershed between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena in the Dolomites. Reach it from Canazei via the Passo Fedare trail—allow 3.5 hours uphill. From Ortisei on the Gardena side, the approach via Seceda takes 4 hours. Both routes are straightforward hiking with no scrambling. The hut is a natural stop on longer traverses across the Dolomites or as a base for day walks in the surrounding limestone terrain.

The rifugio operates year-round and holds 40 beds in simple, clean dormitories and a few doubles. Half-board is standard; the kitchen serves solid mountain fare. The hut has a small bar and a sun terrace facing north toward the Sella group. Water comes from a spring nearby. Showers cost extra. The building is basic but well-maintained, run by experienced mountain people. No wi-fi; phone signal is patchy.

Book directly through the hut (tel: +39 0462 766147). July and August need advance reservations—aim for 4–6 weeks ahead. June and September see fewer crowds. The hut closes for 2–3 weeks in May and November for maintenance. Winter access depends on snow conditions; call ahead if you're visiting between December and March. Payment is cash or card; confirm when booking.
