About

Rifugio Roda di Vael sits at 2,283m in the Val di Fassa, on the Sella Pass route between the Dolomites' most popular walking circuits. Reach it in 3 hours from Canazei (1,465m) via the Contrin valley, or 2.5 hours from the Passo Fedare (2,050m). The approach is straightforward and family-friendly, following marked paths with steady elevation gain.

The hut sleeps 60 people across multiple rooms plus 4 emergency places. Half-board and full-board meals are available daily. Water is piped in. There is no WiFi. The building was rebuilt and enlarged in the 1980s but retains the character of a working mountain refuge. It's a logical stop on multi-day traverses of the Sella or as a base for day walks in the Val di Fassa and Contrin valleys.

Open staffed from June to September. In winter it remains open but unstaffed—you'll need winter experience and self-sufficiency. Book directly by email or phone via the CAI network website (rifugi.cai.it). July and August fill quickly; book 2-3 months ahead for those months. June and September are quieter.
