Refuge Valdaione

Rifugio Valdaione sits at 1,615m in the Val d'Aosta region, accessible by foot from the Aosta Valley. The hut serves as a base for day hikes into the surrounding pastures and lower alpine terrain. Most hikers reach it in 2–3 hours from the valley floor via marked trails that climb steadily through mixed woodland and open meadow. The location works well for families or those acclimatizing before higher mountain objectives.

The rifugio holds 50 beds across simple dorm rooms. Half-board meals are standard: straightforward mountain food with local cheese and cured meat at dinner. The hut has hot water, a basic shower block, and a wood-burning stove in the common room. The season runs June through September; opening dates depend on snow melt. Phone ahead to confirm availability outside peak summer weeks.

Book by phone at least 1–2 weeks ahead for weekends in July and August. Mid-week slots fill less predictably. Contact the hut directly for current rates and opening dates. The hut closes in poor weather, so confirm conditions before heading up. Winter access is not maintained.
