About

Tribulaunhaus sits at 2,064m on the eastern flank of the Zillertal Alps in South Tyrol. You reach it from the village of Mayrhofen in Austria (easier approach) or from Finkenberg, crossing into Italy via the Zillertal Pass trail—allow 4–5 hours from either starting point. The hut marks the gateway to serious ridge and peak terrain: Hochfeiler (3,510m) and Zuckerhütl (3,507m) are both within day-hike range for experienced alpine walkers.

The hut is run by the AVS (Alpenverein Südtirol) and sleeps around 40 people in dorms. Half-board is standard. The kitchen serves simple, reliable mountain food. Showers are available (small charge). The season runs mid-June through late September; the hut closes in winter. Water comes from a spring; electricity is generated on-site. The terrace faces north toward the Zillertal and doesn't catch much sun, but the location is excellent for mountaineering access.

Book direct by email or phone at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. July is busiest; June and September offer more availability and better weather stability for ridge traverses. The hut takes cash and bank transfer. Stock up on supplies in Mayrhofen before arrival—nothing is available above the village except at the hut itself.

No—the demanding 4-5 hour approach and location as a base for serious peaks like Hochfeiler (3,510m) and Zuckerhütl (3,507m) make this hut for experienced Alpine hikers only, not families or casual walkers.
