About

Rifugio Turia sits at 2,690m in the Gressoney Valley, deep in the Monte Rosa massif. You reach it from the village of Gressoney-Saint-Jean by hiking up the Gressoney Valley trail for roughly 4–5 hours. The path is well-marked and follows a mountain stream through pasture before climbing into rocky terrain. Most parties take the direct route via Passo della Rata (2,806m) to link with other huts in the region.

The rifugio is a working mountain base with 40 beds split across basic dormitory rooms. Meals are hearty and fuel-focused: expect pasta, polenta, and local cheese. There's a small bar and a wood stove in the common room. Water comes from the mountain. The hut operates June through September and closes in poor weather. Showers are cold or absent. Cell signal is spotty.

Email the hut directly to book, especially for July and August when parties climbing Monte Rosa pass through. Book 3–4 months ahead during peak season. The hut fills fast on weekends. Confirm your arrival date and planned departure time when you email—staff need to know how many meals to prepare. No credit cards; bring cash (EUR). Acclimatisation stays here are common for climbers heading to higher peaks.
