About
Rifugio Città di Mantova stands at 3,498m on the Gran Paradiso massif in Valle d'Aosta. Reach it from Ceresole Reale via the Pont and Noaschetta trail, a 4–5 hour climb with roughly 1,200m of elevation gain. The final approach crosses scree and rocky terrain requiring scrambling ability. Summer conditions (July–September) are optimal; snow lingers into early June and returns by October.
The hut sleeps 40 in dormitory rooms and serves meals in the dining hall. Meals are half-board only: dinner and breakfast included with the bed. Water comes from a spring near the building. Toilets are outside. The refuge operates from mid-June through September. No electricity or heating means it closes in winter. This is a working base for Gran Paradiso ascents and onward routes toward the Levanna massif.
Book directly by phone at the number listed on rifugio.net or contact the managing club directly. July and August fill 4–6 weeks ahead, particularly weekends. June and September have more flexibility. Confirm opening dates before travelling, as late snow can delay access. Half-board dinner and breakfast runs €55–70 per person, payable in cash.
