About

Rifugio degli Angeli sits at 2,916m in the Gran Paradiso massif, on the border between Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont. Approach from the Valsavarenche valley: 4–5 hours from Pont, following the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele trail. The final section gains 800m and becomes steep and exposed in places. Most parties use this as a base for Gran Paradiso itself (4,061m), a straightforward snow and rock climb that takes 4–5 hours from the hut.

The rifugio has 49 beds across several rooms, with basic but functional dormitories and a few doubles. Hot showers are available. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast; half-board is standard. The hut operates year-round but sees heaviest use June through September. Winter access requires ski touring or mountaineering skills. Staff speak Italian and basic English. The bar serves hot drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Book direct by email or phone. July and August are extremely busy—reserve 4–6 months ahead if you plan to climb Gran Paradiso in peak season. May and September offer better availability with still-good weather. The hut fills fastest on Friday and Saturday nights. Arrive by mid-afternoon if you're hiking in the same day; the final approach takes longer than it looks.
