Refuge Monte Bianco

Rifugio Monte Bianco sits at 1,680m in the Valle d'Aosta, on the route between Courmayeur and the Gran Paradiso valleys. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Courmayeur via the Val Veny trail. Winter access is possible but requires avalanche awareness and often crampons. The hut marks a natural transition point for multi-day traverses linking the Mont Blanc massif to higher terrain eastward.

The rifugio operates year-round and sleeps 40 guests in mixed dormitories. Half-board meals feature Aosta Valley cooking—expect hearty polenta, local cheese, and proper pasta. The kitchen handles vegetarian requests if notified ahead. Facilities include hot showers, a small bar, and a wood stove in the common room. Mobile signal is weak but email works via the hut's WiFi. The building itself is simple and functional rather than new; bunks are basic but clean.

Book directly by email or phone at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. Winter weekends fill 6–8 weeks in advance. The hut closes for 2–3 weeks in November for maintenance. Payment is cash-preferred; card payments incur a 3% surcharge. Arrive before 18:00 if you've booked dinner. The guardian is responsive to requests about group bookings and packed lunches for early departures.
