Refuge Zar Senni

Rifugio Zar Senni sits at 1,664m in the Gran Paradiso valley, above the village of Valsavarenche. Reach it from the village car park in 2 hours on a well-marked trail. The hut serves as a base for day walks to alpine lakes and scrambles toward Gran Paradiso's lower peaks. Most visitors approach from the south; the route climbs steadily through larch forest before opening to meadow and scree.

The refuge holds 16 beds across simple rooms. Half-board is available year-round. The kitchen provides filling mountain food. A small bar serves hot drinks and beer. Water comes from a spring nearby. The hut has basic toilets and no shower. Phone signal is spotty. Open June to September, and weekends in shoulder seasons—call ahead outside summer. Management by local volunteers means rustic conditions and genuine hospitality.
