Casera di Focobon

Casera di Focobon sits at 1,894m in the Dolomites, accessible via the Val di Fanes. The hut lies on the approach to Passo di Fanes (2,060m) and serves as a base for ridge traverses across the Fanes plateau. Most hikers reach it in 2–3 hours from the valley floor, making it a solid mid-range objective. The surrounding terrain mixes open alpine meadow with limestone cliffs, offering moderate scrambling opportunities and straightforward high-altitude walking.
The hut is a working mountain refuge with basic but functional accommodation for around 30 people. Meals are simple and hearty—expect pasta, meat dishes, and local cheeses. Water comes from a reliable spring. The season runs mid-June through September, though shoulder months depend on snow cover and staffing. It closes in winter and during heavy rain periods. The building itself is modest and can feel busy on weekends when parties from the valley base arrive.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead, longer during July and August. Weekends fill quickly in good weather. The hut is unmanned on some days outside peak season—confirm opening dates before you go. Payment is cash only. Allow time to acclimatize if arriving from the valley; the elevation gain is steady and continuous.
