Casera Pescol

Casera Pescol sits at 1,960m on the eastern edge of the Dolomites, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region near the Triglav border. Access is via the Pesarina Valley from Sutrio. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours on foot, starting from the village car park at around 800m. The trail is well-marked and moderate throughout. In winter, you'll need mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness on the final section.
The hut is a traditional Alpine refuge with 20 beds split between dormitory and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves filling dinners focused on local pasta, polenta and game. The location works equally well as a base for day hikes across the surrounding meadows and peaks, or as an overnight stop for traverses toward the higher ridges. The hut operates year-round, though winter access requires prior coordination. Water comes directly from the mountain stream. The building itself is simple and well-maintained, with no shower facilities.

Book at least two weeks ahead during shoulder seasons (June and September). Half-board is standard and mandatory when beds are limited.
