Casera Pian dei fioch

Casera Pian dei Fiöch sits at 1,847m in the Carnic Alps on the border between Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto. Reach it from Sappada in 2.5 hours via the Val Digona trail, or from Forni di Sopra in 3 hours via Passo Duran. The hut serves as a junction point for ridge walks and scrambles across this less-crowded section of the Carnics. Access is straightforward in summer; winter approaches require experience with snow and avalanche exposure.
The hut is a traditional rifugio offering 30 beds across simple rooms. Half-board includes hearty mountain cooking focused on local Friuli specialties. The kitchen supplies packed lunches for early starts. A small bar and sitting area provide shelter in bad weather. Water comes from the spring nearby. The hut runs from June through September, with limited weekends in May and October depending on conditions.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August. July weekends fill completely. June and September offer more flexibility. The hut staff speak Italian, English, and some German. Arrive by early afternoon to secure water and settle in before dinner service at 7pm.
