About

Cosi Piero sits at 3,200m in the Val d'Oten, deep in the Veneto Alps. You reach it via a 4-hour approach from Passo Ghedina (2,135m), a steep and exposed scramble in the final section. The hut marks the start point for serious alpine climbs on the surrounding peaks and acclimatizes you quickly for higher objectives. Access requires mountain experience—this is not a beginner hut.

The hut has 9 beds split across dormitory rooms. The CAI manages it as a summer-only staffed refuge, typically open June through September. You bring your own food and cooking fuel; there's no meals service or shop. Water comes from a natural source nearby. Expect basic conditions: no heating, no electricity beyond perhaps a small solar panel, and no connectivity. The shelter is functional alpine accommodation, not comfortable. Toilets are outside.

Book directly with CAI through rifugi.cai.it or email the hut manager. Phone ahead to confirm staff presence if you're arriving outside peak season. July and August fill quickly; aim to book 4-6 weeks ahead for those months. June and September are quieter and give you more flexibility. Check current water availability before your visit, especially in dry years.
