About

Montanel sits at 2,008m in the Val Montanel–Val Talagona region of the Veneto. Reach it from the valley in 3–4 hours on marked trails. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks and peaks in the area. A new wooden bivacco replaced the old structure in September 2023.

The hut has 8 beds in the main section plus 4 emergency places. No meals are served, so bring all food and fuel. There is no piped water—collect from natural sources nearby. No WiFi. The hut is staffed during summer months and remains open but unstaffed in winter. Conditions are basic: expect a mountain refuge, not a hotel.

Book via rifugi.cai.it or email the CAI manager directly. Summer weekends fill quickly between June and September; reserve at least 4 weeks ahead if you're traveling July–August. Winter access is self-service and free, but you're responsible for your own safety and bringing supplies.
