Obstansersee-Hütte

Obstansersee-Hütte sits at 2,300m in the Zillertal Alps, above the Zillertal valley in Tyrol. Reach it from Ginzling by hiking 2.5 hours to the lake, then another 30 minutes to the hut. The trail climbs steadily through larch forest before opening to alpine meadows and rocky terrain. Summer conditions are reliable; snow lingers into June on the higher sections.
The hut operates as a simple mountain refuge with 40 beds across shared dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves hot meals at lunch and dinner, plus a basic breakfast. There's no shower, but cold water and a small stove for warming exist. The hut sits directly above Obstansersee lake, making it a solid base for ridge walks toward higher peaks or day hikes around the surrounding cirque. Open June through September depending on snow melt and weather.
Book directly by phone with the hut keeper. July and August fill 4–6 weeks ahead, especially weekends. May-June and September offer more flexibility. Bring your own sleeping bag or rent one for a small fee. The hut accepts cash only—no card payments. If you can't reach them by phone, email queries may take several days to answer.
