About

Rifugio Maddalene sits at 1,925m on the slopes of Monte Maddalene in the Dolomites. The hut serves as a base for hikers crossing the high plateaux between the Tre Cime and Tre Croci areas. Approach from Auronzo di Cadore takes 2–2.5 hours via marked trail CAI 105. The route gains 600m steadily through mixed forest before opening onto alpine meadow. Winter access is difficult; most hikers visit June through September.

The rifugio has 16 beds arranged in small mixed rooms. SAT (Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini) runs the hut with half-board meals cooked to order. Dinner and breakfast are substantial. Water comes from spring sources. Toilets are basic but functional. There is no shower. The hut operates as a staffed refuge during the hiking season only—call ahead to confirm opening dates.

Book 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact SAT directly through rifugi.net or call ahead to reserve. July and the first two weeks of August are busiest. The hut is popular with walkers doing multi-day loops rather than technical climbers, and groups often book the entire hut for private use during peak season.
