About

Rifugio Maria e Alberto al Brentei sits at 2,182m in the Brenta Dolomites, a limestone massif that dominates the western Trentino landscape. Approach from Molveno village via the cable car to Pradel (1,365m), then hike 2.5 hours northeast on marked trails through beech and larch forest to reach the hut. The final approach traverses open pasture with views into the Brenta's dramatic gorges. Strong walkers can skip the cable car and ascend from Molveno in 4.5 hours. This hut works well as a base for day hikes into the Brenta or as a link in multi-day ridge traverses connecting valleys below.

The hut holds 70 beds in small dormitories and private rooms. CAI manages the facility and serves dinner and breakfast in a communal dining room with views east toward the Adamello massif. Showers are available. The kitchen provides packed lunches on request. The season runs mid-June through late September, with shoulder months seeing fewer crowds and lower booking pressure. Winter closing is firm due to exposure and avalanche risk on approach slopes.

Book through rifugio.net or direct contact with the CAI section. July and August fill 3–4 weeks ahead, especially weekends. June and September offer flexibility. The hut lies on the popular Sentiero delle Trincee (Trench Trail), a World War I route—expect group bookings on summer weekends. Weekday visits in June or early September work best if you prefer quieter nights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book 2-3 weeks ahead during July-August, earlier for weekends. Use rifugio.net or call the hut directly; they also accept walk-ins outside peak season but don't count on availability then.
Open mid-June through mid-September, fully staffed during this period. Outside these dates, it may open weekends only—check ahead.
Start from Molveno village and take the cable car to Pradel (1,365m), then hike 2.5 hours northeast on marked trails to the hut; alternatively, skip the cable car and walk 4.5 hours uphill from Molveno if you prefer no mechanized assistance.
Expect bunk beds in shared dormitories, hot meals at dinner, and basic washing facilities; hot showers may be limited or cost extra—confirm when booking.
Not ideal for beginners—the 2.5-hour hike is steep and exposed in sections, and the cable car cuts only 2 hours off a full day's effort; families with confident older children (10+) and some Alpine experience will manage fine.
