About

Rifugio Mario Vazzoler lies at 1,714 m on Col Negro di Pelsa at the head of Val Corpassa, in the municipality of Taibon Agordino on the western side of the Civetta group. Inaugurated on 30 June 1929 and owned by the Conegliano section of the Italian Alpine Club, it is one of the most atmospheric huts in the Dolomites, set among larches directly beneath the elegant Torre Venezia and the mighty Torre Trieste - the 'tower of towers' - whose classic rock climbs from grade IV to VIII- made this a historic mountaineering base. Today it is best known as an overnight stop on Alta Via 1, between Rifugio Tissi and Rifugio Carestiato. The normal approach starts in Listolade in the Agordino valley: follow the Val Corpassa road to Capanna Trieste (1,135 m), then trail 555 up the old service track to the hut, about 2.5 hours in total. The hut sleeps 80 in summer, with a 7-place winter bivouac nearby, and its restaurant seats 70 indoors. It is open from mid-June to late September, with online booking and a 30 euro per-person deposit; contact +39 0437 1956619 or [email protected].

Yes - the approach from Listolade via Capanna Trieste follows a road and then a wide track with no technical difficulty, making it one of the friendlier Civetta huts for families. It is a steady uphill walk of around 1,000 m of ascent, so reasonable fitness is still needed.
