About

Tofana sits at 2,922m on the Passo Falzarego, between the Tre Croci and Tofana di Rozes peaks in the Dolomites. The hut is reached from Passo Falzarego (2,105m) in 1.5 to 2 hours of steep hiking. From Cortina d'Ampezzo, drive to the pass, park, and start from the southwest side. The route climbs scree and loose rock—wear proper boots and bring water from below.
Tofana is a tiny alpine refuge with 7 beds in shared dormitory rooms. The hut is staffed in summer only (typically June to September, conditions permitting). There is no water source at the hut and no meals are served, so bring all food and water you'll need. There is no WiFi. The hut exists primarily as a waypoint for alpinists attempting Tofana di Rozes (3,244m) via the ferrata routes and scrambles that define this area. Climbers use it for an early start on technical terrain.
Book directly through rifugi.cai.it well in advance for July and August. July and August are fully booked 2-3 months ahead. May, June, and September have more availability but weather is less reliable. Confirm the current opening dates with CAI before traveling, as staffing depends on volunteer availability and snow conditions. The hut has no phone signal.
