Lovska Hut na Miji

Lovska Koča na Miji sits at 1,520m on the slopes of Mija in the Julian Alps, roughly 4 hours' hike from the Pokljuka plateau. The approach is steady forest walking with good trail infrastructure maintained by PZS. Most hikers start from Pokljuka and climb via marked paths through beech and spruce forest. The hut serves as a base for scrambles to nearby summits and for traverses across the Pokljuka high plateau, popular with ridge walkers.
The hut is small and traditional, with capacity for around 30 people. Meals focus on Slovenian mountain food—hearty soups, meat-based mains, fresh bread. There's a common room with wood stove and basic bunk accommodation. Tap water is available on site. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche risk on approach slopes. Stock supplies before arrival; the nearest village with shops is Bled, 1.5 hours' walk downhill.
Book 2-3 weeks ahead for weekends July-August and during PZS holiday periods (Easter, summer school breaks, autumn half-term). Email or call ahead in winter to confirm access. Payment is cash-only on arrival. The warden can advise on conditions for onward routes to Triglav or across Pokljuka.
