Krničarjeva Hut na Planini Javornik

Krničarjeva Koča sits on Planina Javornik at 1390m in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Reach it via the valley trail from Lukovica (about 2.5 hours on foot) or from Ojstrica (roughly 1.5 hours). The walk is steady through beech forest with minimal elevation gain. Most hikers approach from Lukovica, which has a small car park and is the natural access point for the region.
The hut is a modest mountain refuge run by PZS with basic sleeping capacity (20–25 beds) in shared rooms. Simple meals are available when the keeper is present: soups, local cheese, cured meat, and basic hot food. Water comes from a reliable spring. The hut operates year-round but is busiest in summer (June–September). Winter access depends on snow cover and keeper availability, so contact ahead if you plan a cold-season visit.
Book direct by phone or through the PZS Kamnik branch well ahead for July and August weekends. Weekday visits outside July–August rarely require advance booking. The hut can fill during long weekends and school holidays. Bring cash; card payment may not be reliable. The keeper often closes for a day or two mid-week, so confirm opening before setting out.
