Lovska Hut
1.2Lovska Koča
Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Slovenia
About
Lovska Koča sits at 1,469m on the southern slopes of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, between Križ Pass and the ridge toward Ojstrica. The hut lies on the main hiking route connecting Kamnik valley to the high plateau. From Kamnik town (590m), follow the Kamniška Bistrica river valley for 14km to reach the trailhead at Govce. Hike 3.5–4 hours uphill through beech and spruce forest to arrive at the hut. The route gains 900m steadily but without technical difficulty, making it accessible to fit hikers carrying full packs.
The hut is a simple mountain shelter managed by PZS. It sleeps around 30 people in basic dormitory rooms and a small common area with a wood stove. The guardian serves hot meals and drinks. Water comes from a spring nearby. There is no electricity or shower facilities. The hut operates year-round but staffing varies—confirm opening dates with PZS before visiting in winter or spring. The location makes it an obvious overnight stop for hikers traversing the Kamnik Alps, or a base for day walks to Ojstrica (2,350m, 2 hours) and Črni vrh (2,181m).
Book through PZS Kamnik or contact the hut directly. July and August require advance booking—aim for 2–3 weeks notice. September to June has less pressure but confirm with PZS that the hut will be staffed. Pay cash on arrival or arrange payment beforehand.
