Fuchses Schwyberg

Fuchses Schwyberg sits at 1,573m on the Schwyberg ridge in the Bernese Oberland, northeast of Meiringen. The hut is accessible via a well-marked hiking trail from Meiringen (allow 2.5 to 3 hours) or from Hasliberg (1.5 hours). Both approaches follow clear Alpine paths with steady elevation gain. The hut is also reachable by mountain bike on the same trails during summer months.

The hut offers basic mountain hospitality with bed spaces for around 20 guests and a simple dining room. Meals consist of hearty Alpine food—soup, meat dishes, and local cheese. The kitchen provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner for overnight guests and day-hikers. Water comes from a spring near the hut. The hut operates year-round but is most reliably staffed from May to October; verify opening dates before planning a winter visit. Facilities include basic dormitory accommodation, an outhouse, and an external shower.

July and August are busy; book at least 2 weeks ahead for these months. The hut is popular with families and local hikers from central Switzerland, especially on weekends.
