Backi sits at 1,562m on the Weissenstein massif in the Jura, 90 minutes' walk from Oberdorf (accessible by car or PostBus). The hut anchors itself between limestone cliffs and open pasture, serving hikers tackling the Weissenstein ridge or moving between the Jura valleys. Summer access is straightforward: 2.5 hours from Trimbach via the Egerkingen valley, or 1.5 hours from the Weissenstein road parking area. In winter, approach becomes technical—contact SAC Weissenstein in advance if you're planning a cold-season visit.
The SAC maintains this 40-bed hut as a working hub for Jura hiking rather than a destination in itself. Expect dormitory accommodation, hot meals cooked on-site, and basic facilities. The hut typically operates April through October, though opening dates shift with snow cover in spring and autumn. Book your meal ahead by phone or email—the SAC manages kitchen logistics carefully and won't feed walk-ins without notice.
