Ehwaldhütte

Ehwaldhütte sits at 1,235m on the edge of the Black Forest, just above the Rhine valley near the Swiss-German border. The hut is accessible from Grenzach-Whylen on foot in roughly 1.5 hours via marked trails through mixed forest. You can also approach from the Swiss side via Bad Säckingen. The location makes it a natural base for day hikes into the surrounding limestone hills and rock formations that draw climbers to this region.

The hut is run by Naturfreunde Grenzach-Whylen and managed by Michael Markoni. It offers basic facilities: drinking water and flush toilets are available, but no showers. The hut serves meals and provides dormitory accommodation for hikers and mountaineers. It operates year-round, making it accessible for winter hiking or as a staging point for climbing trips. The relatively low elevation means reliable access in shoulder seasons when higher Alpine huts are still snowed in.
