Carschinahütte

Carschinahütte sits at 2,236m in the Prättigau valley region of Graubünden, accessible from several directions. The standard approach is from Schlappin via the Schlangenweg (Snake Path), a steep 2.5-hour climb gaining 900m. Alternatively, reach it in 3 hours from Bad Ragaz via Vättis and the Tamina valley. The hut works well as a base for traversing the Säntis massif or pushing toward Säntis itself (2,502m) in 4 hours.

The SAC manages this 80-bed hut and keeps it open year-round, though services are limited November through April. The kitchen serves hot meals daily; you can also self-cater in the equipped kitchen. Water comes from the mountain spring. The hut has simple dormitory accommodation and basic facilities—no showers, so plan accordingly. Toilet facilities are functional. The setting suits walkers and alpinists accustomed to straightforward mountain hospitality rather than comfort.
