Kesch Alpine Hut

Chamanna Digl Kesch sits at 2,625m in the Albula Alps, east of Preda in Graubünden. Most hikers approach from Preda (1,551m) via the Kesch Pass, a 4-hour climb gaining 1,074m. The route follows good trails through alpine meadows and scree. An alternative approach comes from Darlux in the Davos area, adding another 90 minutes. Both routes are straightforward in summer but require sure footing on loose stone.

The hut holds 92 beds spread across multiple dormitories, making it a substantial base for exploring the surrounding peaks—Kesch (3,417m) and Piz Sesvenna (3,204m) are within reach. Staff serve three meals daily, though you can prepare your own food in the self-catering kitchen. Water is available on-site. The hut has no WiFi, which makes sense for this elevation and remoteness. It operates year-round, though winter access is only feasible for experienced alpinists with glacier knowledge. Summer is the busy season, running roughly June to September.

Spring and autumn offer quieter conditions but check weather forecasts carefully—snow can linger into June and return by September.
